Enormous Talent is Not Enough

So many people have the talent to succeed but are not willing to put in the time and hustle to get there… You have to hustle or you will get beaten! I am so tired of debating if talent or heck content is enough because the names I mentioned in this video and many many more sure prove that is ISN’T!

Hustle and hard work beats talent and privilege almost every time.

a) it’s important not to confuse “hustle and hard work” with “undermining and scheming.” If you are an honest and passionate hard worker you’ll likely do well in the long-view, if you are the latter, you inevitably have an expiration date.

b) this also sounds like a personal success version of a web question I’m often asked: what is the key to “successful” or “viral” content on the web? is it platform or content?

My response is that, of course, you need a well-formed marriage of the two. But just as Soup pointed out that “hustle and hard work” will beat out talent MOST of the time, the same goes for viral media on the web: your content is often only as good as your platform. There are tons of great ideas/items that never actually go viral. This isn’t to say that ANYTHING can go viral with the right platform, but web content on the whole lives and dies by optimization.

Remember, it’s not so much what your content “is” but what you want it to “do.”

Not discussing how seeding and promotion works, here are a few things that people often fail to consider when launching content on the web:

Consider the nature of your content: What is it? (photos, video, games) i.e. if you are dealing with only images, a platform’s design and look will be top priority….
Consider how your content can be “socialized”: How do you want people to interact with your content? (user-submissions? Reaction buttons? Meme contributions?) i.e. what platform has the features that bring your content to life?

Select a platform that has the community, interactivity, and user-experience that presents your content at its best and you’ve already greatly upped your chances of success.
